Random Thoughts Make the World Go'Round

4 Books that can Inspire You to Take Action

2017 was the year I decided to do it. To take action. To do what I thought was right and take a chance into the unknown. To leap.

Taking a chance on yourself is scary and you need some vitamin c (confidence) to get you through the terror. The wonderful thing about our world today is that you can find some wonderful resources to inspire you, to validated that you are not crazy, and to show you that you can be successful if you just believe and give it your all.

Here are four books that I have depended on in my time of need. They provided me information, inspiration and reassurance. I hope they do the same for you!

Yes, Simon is now a household name. His Ted Talk is one of the most watched ever. He has multiple books now and tours the world spreading his vision of inspiration. This book really changed my outlook on everything. It helped me stop focusing on just getting by and drove me to find out what really mattered to me. To look for my why, to what would be most fulfilling for me.

If you are just coasting at work or in life, and everything seems so mundane and grey, this book is for you. It will help you get reconnected with what matters most to you and show you that if you seek what you believe in, people will respond to you. Not because you want them to, but because THEY want to.

If you have read anything that I have written, or if you know me personally, you may know that I am a sucker for colorful language. This book not only made a lot of sense, but also entertained the heck out of me with its brilliant simplicity of concepts.

The premise here is that not that you shouldn’t care, but that you should only care about what matters most. That for me was a true breakthrough. F*** yeah it was!! Given my anxiety, I can tend to obsess about things that have not even happened yet. However, by adjusting my thinking that I only have so many F’s to give I have truly focused on what matters. And F*** it, I’m going for it!

Oh, you are a procrastinator? Do I have a book for you! The War of Art is a brilliant, simple book that you can finish in one sitting. EASILY. Steven Pressfield has written many novels of inspiration including The Legend of Bagger Vance, but in this book, he just lays it all out for you to react to. You will picture yourself as he describes how resistance is a seductive power that will lead you to inaction and will tell you how to overcome it… by doing the work. Everyday. No exceptions.

A wonderful mixture of self-help book and guide to breaking through your creative blocks, The War of Art is the reason you are reading this post. The reason why I shut up already and started doing something. Putting myself out there. Unafraid.

Have I mentioned I enjoy colorful language? Well this book fits the bill. Jen has a wonderful way to explain things in a way that you can clearly understand. The book is conversational and it is why I suggest you getting the audio book narrated by Sincero herself.

My favorite quote of the book (there are many) is: “In order for you to kick-ass you must first lift your foot.” I mean… COME ON!!! How awesome is that?! The best thing about this book is that it really challenges you to focus on you, on what you want and what you deserve. It all starts with you.

There you have it… some late in the year reading that will inspire you to take action. Because what else do you have to do?

“If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got.”  - I would attribute this quote but it is almost impossible to figure out who said it…
